EDWin - Electronic Design for Windows
EDWin 32
The growing demands of users laid the foundation for development of an advanced
version of EDWin, known as EDWin32.
This package incorporates all the advantageous features of the earlier versions of EDWin
(Upgrade path to EDWin 32 is EDWin ver. 1.70). In addition to this, EDWin32 provides better zoom precision and accuracy, owing to its 32
bit application format. Operations may be carried out with greater speed and reliability.
EDWin 32 has an increased database capacity and includes provision to create a board of 4
x 4m size.
The appearance of some of the dialog boxes that pop up, have been improved in various
aspects. Apart from Help that is invoked from every module of EDWin32, context sensitive
help and autohelp facility have also been provided.
EDWin32 Conversion Manager is used for converting 16 bit databases and libraries of EDWin
into 32 bit databases and Libraries of EDWin32. The extensions of the corresponding
databases and libraries also get updated. This module is invoked from
File/Utilities/Conversion Manager in the main menu of EDWin32. Import and Export of EEDIII
databases, which was previously invoked separately from File/Utilities, may also be
facilitated from this module.
Several features have been added to the software for easier orientation in the contents
and structure of EDWin32 Part Library. The libraries associated with EDWin, its component
representation and file name extensions have been altered in the latest version. The
references to device, schematic symbol and layout symbol have been changed to part, symbol
and package respectively.
A number of 16 bit Device(*.EDL) libraries and their corresponding Schematic Symbol(*.ESL)
libraries have been split and grouped to corresponding (*.PART and *.SYMBOL) on the basis
of their manufacturers. This facilitates easier search and accessibility of the required
library element.
EDWin32 provides a maximum precision of 1 micron compared to the earlier version’s
1 mil. This means that a user may work in such small unit as 1 micron. In EDWin32, user
may zoom upto a max. precision of 0.00004” (0.001mm) and a min. of 0.1000”
(2.5mm). (This value might adjust according to the current resolution of the user’s
monitor, which means that the user might not actually go to such a small scale and the
system will adjust to a closer value) .
Zoom Up and Zoom Down buttons allow step wise zooming of the graphics
area, replacing the horizontal scroll bar in earlier version of EDWin .
Autoplacer and Autorouter, which were previously separate modules, are now incorporated
in the editor. Manual placement of components includes an option for relocating components
by placement pattern.
The appearance of the mixed mode simulation module has been changed . A new feature that
has been incorporated in this module is Assign Sim. Code . The tools used in this module
have been grouped as function tools with their corresponding option tools, similar to the
other modules of EDWin32.
